Heepen Students Participate in Model United Nations in Arnhem
Currently, 11 students from our school in Heepen are wrapping up their exciting participation in the 17th edition of the Model United Nations (MUN) conference in Arnhem, Netherlands. Accompanied by their teachers, Mrs. Schorn and Mrs. Cramer, the students have spent the past few days immersed in debates, discussions, and cultural exchange. Today, they are on their way back to Bielefeld after an intense but rewarding experience.
For several weeks, the students had been preparing for this event through their participation in the MUN AG. Divided into different committees, they represented various countries, drafting resolutions and negotiating solutions to global issues. The conference, focused on the theme "Amplifying Unheard Voices", encouraged participants to highlight marginalized perspectives and promote inclusivity in international decision-making.
There were numerous lively debates during the conference, as students tackled complex issues from different angles. Despite the challenging discussions, they embraced the opportunity to deepen their understanding of diplomacy, international relations, and global cooperation. The students also enjoyed meeting peers from schools worldwide, further enriching the event's international atmosphere.
The participants stayed with host families in Arnhem, allowing them to experience Dutch culture firsthand and build lasting connections with their hosts. The cultural exchange was as valuable as the conference itself, adding another layer of enrichment to the students’ experience.
As the students return to Bielefeld today, they reflect on the friendships they’ve made, the skills they’ve gained, and the global issues they’ve debated. For many, it has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage with important topics, represent different perspectives, and broaden their worldview.
We are incredibly proud of their dedication and enthusiasm and look forward to seeing how they will bring the lessons they’ve learned back to our school community!
